🏺 About the Epfig Hoard
Discovered in 1970 near Epfig, Alsace (France), the Epfig Hoard contained more than 4,000 late Roman bronze coins, primarily from the Constantinian dynasty. It’s one of the largest hoards from the early 4th century in Western Europe and provided invaluable data on Roman coinage in Gaul during the transition to late antiquity.
The hoard included many commemorative issues like this Constantinopolis/Victory type, likely buried during political or military upheaval in the waning years of imperial Gaul.
