This authentic silver AR Denarius was struck for Caracalla, one of the most controversial emperors of the Severan Dynasty. Born Lucius Septimius Bassianus, Caracalla ruled with iron will and brutal efficiency, remembered for both his military achievements and acts of violence, including the assassination of his own brother, Geta, in front of their mother.
 
Issued during the height of imperial Rome, this denarius is a striking example of imperial propaganda, with powerful bust imagery and deity or virtue-themed reverses.
